트럼프와 맘다니, 대통령 집무실 회동의 전말

An absolutely fascinating meeting just happened inside the West Wing between President Trump and Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani. The first time the two had met, obviously since Trump had endorsed against him in his mayoral race and also warned that he would withhold federal funding if Mamdani was elected. Instead, inside that room just now it was warm, the two of them were shaking hands multiple times in front of the cameras and they were sidestepping any of the sensitive issues. That entire exchange between the two of them which President Trump described as a comfortable, good, productive meeting can basically be summed up by this interaction. 

Reporter: Are you affirming that you think President Trump is a fascist? 

Mamdani: I've spoken about -- 

Trump: That's okay. You can just say yes. 

Mamdani: Okay. 

Trump: Okay. It's easier. It's easier than explaining it. I don't mind. 

Now, President Trump also seemed to cut right into some Republican talking points about Mamdani during this meeting, saying that he would feel comfortable living in Zohran Mamdani's New York City. And he also refuted attacks that someone like Elise Stefanik has made against Mamdani in her race for New York's governor. It was a fascinating exchange between the two. The question is whether or not that warm relationship that the two of them had will last, but one takeaway was clear from that meeting is that President Trump is impressed with Zohran Mamdani's political talent.
